About Dr. Tara Johnston

Dr. Tara Johnston is passionate about dentistry and committed to providing quality oral care to patients of all ages. A Bay Area native, Dr. Johnston moved to the central coast city of San Luis Obispo to complete her undergraduate studies in Biology at California Polytechnic Institute, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry.

After finishing dental school, Dr. Johnston refined her clinical skills by completing a residency in Advanced Education of General Dentistry at Sonrisas Community Health Center in Half Moon Bay.

Dr. Johnston is licensed by the Dental Board of California and is a member of the San Francisco Dental Society, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the UCSF Dental Alumni Association, and the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.  Additionally, she received the prestigious C.Craig Memorial Scholarship for excelling in her doctoral studies during her 3rd and 4th years of dental school.

Since 2015, Dr. Johnston has worked as a general dentist in both private practice and nonprofit dental offices. She is committed to the public health aspect of dentistry and dedicated to increasing access to care for under served patients in her community. Dr. Johnston also enjoys traveling to other countries to provide free dental services to those in need through charity organizations in Mexico and in the Dominican Republic. In her free time, she spends time cooking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
